Johanna Vakkari

Johanna Vakkari (Finland), PhD, member of NORDIK’s board 2012-2015 and vice member since 2009-2012, 2015-, is Interim Director at the Finnish Institute in London (on leave from the position of senior coordinator at the Academy of Fine Arts, the University of the Arts Helsinki). She is specialised in historiography, theory and methodology of art history, Italian Renaissance art and contemporary art. Prior her work at the Finnish Institute in London and at the university of the Arts Helsinki she has been teaching art history at the University of Helsinki for almost twenty years.

Johanna Vakkari has published widely in the field of art history and 2007–2013 she was the chair of the Society for Art History in Finland as well as the editor-in-chief of the society’s publication series. Johanna is also Adjunct Professor in history of art history and Italian Renaissance art at the University of Turku and Adjunct Professor of art history at the University of Helsinki. The forthcoming book she has edited and partly written deals with the role of perspective and perception in the history of visual arts (Perspektiivi kuvataiteen historiassa, Gaudeamus 2015).
